Guest Editorial: Task-Oriented Communications for Future Wireless Networks
نویسندگان
چکیده
Future wireless communications aim to meet multifarious quality-of-experience (QoE) requirements for emerging applications, such as autonomous driving, personalized healthcare, and the Internet-of-Everything (IoE). In particular, in human-computer interaction scenarios, humans may simultaneously control multiple IoE devices using speech augmented/ virtual reality commands, thus, making communication pervasive small-range networks, which poses critical challenges traditional bit-oriented communications. It is important future support real-time human-to-machine machine-to-machine interactions by text, speech, image, augmented/virtual reality. To interactions, received information that ultimately matters mostly intention-dependent rather than bit-information-dependent common sense. These applications motivate development of task-oriented advanced signal processing. However, there are still many fundamental problems have not been well investigated

In recent years, there has been an exponential rise in the number of wireless standards such as 802.11 a,b,g,n (and more), 802.15 (Bluetooth, Zigbee, UWB), WCDMA (and several modes), CDMA 2000 (1xEV-DV, 1xEVDO), Wireless USB, and 802.16 (various modes) to name just the most prominent standards. The abundance of standards today is the result of a desire in the industry to support new application...
